Frederic asks about the subconscious and unconscious as parts of the mind, and whether subconscious minds see separation between each other despite the communication that seems to happen at that level.
The Wonders confirm the communication, and say he has in fact experienced the removal of separation between subconscious minds: in the deepest part of sleep, where the conscious mind is absent, his subconscious reawakens to that interconnection for approximately 38 seconds each night.
Although brief by the conscious mind's measure, time is not the same for the subconscious, for which it is long enough to accomplish a great deal - though it is almost always forgotten.
The sense that he has changed comes from the movement occurring in those 38 seconds: his subconscious is growing, his awareness of his ability to command is growing, his awareness of who he really is is growing, and his connection - still limited to a few people he chooses to connect with - is expanding, so that he is just beginning to realize he can connect with all of existence at any time, while his ego and mind remain firmly in charge, asking 'but do I want to?'.
Frederic recognizes that 'do I want to' response, citing his mild tinnitus and noticing a part of him that does not want to change it; the Wonders say his mind likes to play with constructs and with its ability to control.
Asked whether more time in that state, or different choices, would matter, they say the state lasts 38 seconds because he is an ego personality and mind with varying degrees of separation from his soul essence, and that the 38 seconds is the opportunity to explore outside that control mechanism - sufficient for the subconscious to explore everything it can in that moment.
The moment the sleep becomes less deep it is lost.
They compare it to descending a deep drilled hole while holding your breath, touching the bottom and having to shoot straight back up for air, which is why one often twitches and jumps in bed.
